Maganlal & Sons Flagship Store

Heritage:

  • Magnalal & Sons was established in 1880 by the late Shri. Bhringraj Agarwal
  • Even after almost 150 years the site location is exact the same which is in the centre of the town
  • The market - a commercial zone of whole Maharashtra.
  • The pictures on the site show the facade of the building in 1880s and in 2021 just before the redevelopment.
  • The site has a strong heritage value and we hope to revive history through the design and its heritage value.
  • The project is an attempt to preserve the essence of the 150 year old legacy of the owner's family. As per the client's vision we have tried to capture the Maharashtrian heritage in the creative space.
  • The challenge was to highlight the proposed design in Lonavala's existing background which also reflects the busy and chaotic regular day of this area.
  • We have tried to use the traditional elements like zarokhas - arches, deepmali, intricate cast-iron railings - grills - lion posts - arches and enhanced it with the exposed brick work.
  • In case of exposed brickwork we have added layers by using various depths and levels with the help of projections.
  • We appeared in the context of the surroundings by highlighting the materials used in the cornice hands, geometry type, texture, dark cast iron elements with the elevation.

While designing the interior part, function rakes the center stage. As it is sweets-namkin shop the products need to be visible & protected. Moreover the movement of customers - staff is important.

  • Also to accommodate the crowd the overall scale needed to be appropriate, so we have proposed the heights - openings accordingly.
  • The store needs to be accessible (visually + physically),so the addition of large verandah - shaped open glass facade achieves it.
  • The rustic texture from brickwork adds warmth into the space and the lighter ceiling & flooring compliments it.
  • The store racks accommodate & highlights some of the storage area. The grid pattern. from the facade is echoed into the interior space.
  • The open shelves are specially designed to make the products visible & accessible. The counter is designed to be used from both sides to make the movement thorough.
