The Bangur House (E-85) project in Vasant Vihar, New Delhi, was a complex undertaking to design a contemporary home for a four-generation, multi-generational family. The client’s mandate required a design that upheld core Indian cultural values, prioritizing filial piety and hierarchy. Our resulting philosophy was deeply inspired by the traditional Chinese si he yuan (quadrangle house), focusing on symmetry and a clear hierarchical structure. This approach guided the spatial planning—from the placement of the master bedroom at the highest level to the creation of a harmonious balance between intimate private spaces and expansive communal areas.

The architecture is defined by a sense of grandeur, evident from the large entry moonburst door and the use of double and single-height spaces. The entrance sets a tranquil tone with a heroic sunburst door and the sound of water rippling over brass lotuses, while meticulous planning ensures ample natural light and cross-ventilation throughout the house. Key interior features include customized gold metal screens, luxurious statuario marble, and bespoke lighting installations. Specialty rooms, such as the eclectic Hobby Room and the Gentleman's Lounge, are thoughtfully designed to reflect the family’s social lifestyle and make the movement between spaces fluid and intuitive.
